91 pts Poggiotondo Vermentino IGT 2015
The 2015 Vermentino is powerful and intense, with plenty of mineral and savory notes that complement the more typical Vermentino sweet citrus and floral character. Drink this refreshing white over the next year or so.”
90 pts Poggiotondo Chianti Superiore DOCG 2014
Poggiotondo’s 2014 Chianti Superiore is dark, fleshy and succulent, with lovely depth and pliancy to match. Dark cherry, plum, lavender, violet and menthol wrap around the inviting finish. The 2014 was fermented in cement and aged in cask. More importantly, it is a terrific effort for the vintage.
92 pts Poggiotondo Chianti Riserva DOCG 2013
The 2013 Chianti Riserva is one of the best wines I have tasted from Poggiotondo. Dark cherry, plum and spice are all given an extra kick of creaminess by the addition of 10% Merlot in the blend. Beautifully textured and expressive, the 2013 offers terrific density and impeccable overall balance. Alberto Antonini aged the 2013 exclusively in cask.
91 pts Poggiotondo Chianti Riserva Vigna delle Conchiglie DOCG 2013
The 2013 Chianti Riserva Vigna delle Conchiglie is a bit more mineral-driven and savory in profile than the Chianti Riserva, which also gives it a slightly austere feel. Chalk, orange peel and anise add nuance, while the fruit lies in the background. Today, the Vigna delle Conchiglie is decidedly less overt than most of the other wines in the range.
88 pts Poggiotondo Chianti Riserva Vigna delle Conchiglie DOCG 2011
The 2011 Chianti Riserva Vigna del 28 is powerful, yet also lifted, with attractive aromatics, but less depth than I expected for an old-vine Chianti from the 2011 vintage. This is an especially restrained style for the year, with less opulence than is common in most wines. Chalk, white flowers and mint notes add tension throughout.
