Who: Carmenere
While Cabernet is certainly more important in Chile, I prefer their Carmenere. Chilean Carmenere is a unique wine in the world, at times attractively vegetal and spicy with medium bodied bright red fruit and a texture that is more similar to Cabernet Franc than Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s the perfect marriage of fruity and savory, fresh and yet structured. It is one of the world’s great wines for pairing with herb scented red meat, lamb in particular. Some of my favorite wines include:
Oveja Negra Single Vineyard Carmenere, Maule Valley
Chilcas Reserva Carmenere, Maule Valley
