Under the heading “Hot Wines,” the editors at Wine Spectator published the 95-point score awarded to New Zealand’s Greywacke 2022 vintage of Sauvignon Blanc, landing it solidly among the world’s best:
“Distinctive, succulent and wonderfully complex, with honeysuckle, honey-preserved ginger, creamy lemon curd, ripe mango and floral notes, plus stone fruit flavors on a rich, smooth and mouthwateringly juicy frame. Reveals hints of spices that linger on the long, expressive finish. Drink now.” —MaryAnn Worobiec
Other reviews of Greywacke’s 2022 Sauvignon Blanc earlier this year include a “Wine of the Week” nod by David Williams at The Guardian UK (May 2023), and a 94-point rating and note from Decanter:
“Must-Try White Wine – With 25 years at Cloudy Bay, Kevin Judd was key to the global renown of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Today his Greywacke wines (particularly the Wild Sauvignon) are standard bearers in their own right. This elegant, textural vintage brims with zippy pineapple sorbet, elderflower blossom and green mango freshness, with bracing lime acidity and a creamy passionfruit curd finish.” —Tina Gellie
The previous Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc vintage, 2021, scored 94 and “Top 100” wines of 2022 also by Wine Spectator, and the 2020 vintage garnered a 94-point rating and “Top 100 Values” rating from Halliday Wine Companion.
